Description:
Step back in time with this richly varied programme of short films capturing life in Kildare from the early 1900s through to the 1970s. A Kildare Kaleidoscope brings together rarely-seen archival footage, offering a unique glimpse into the county’s social, industrial, and cultural history.

Highlights include early footage of a Grand National winner at Eyrefield Lodge Stud (1902), scenes from the Bog of Allen peat cooperative, and a compelling snapshot of Ireland from Rathangan writer Maura Laverty. The programme also features vibrant newsreels from the 1960s, showcasing everything from go-kart racing in Castledermot and a chinchilla farm in Naas, to the Batchelors Peas factory in Athy and waterskiing in Ballymore Eustace. A charming look at school life in The Curragh rounds out this engaging journey through Kildare’s past.

The screening will be introduced by IFI’s Sunniva O’Flynn, who invites audience members to share memories and help identify people and places featured on screenβ€”making this both a cultural and community experience.
